Educators and High Schools

Educators and local high schools play a critical role in Hanover Works by helping students connect classroom learning to real-world careers and workplace experiences.

Teachers, counselors, and administrators participate in programs such as Educator in the Workplace, where they spend time inside businesses and organizations to better understand industry needs, workplace expectations, and career opportunities available to students.

School districts collaborate with businesses and the Chamber to:

  • Identify workforce needs and career pathways

  • Support apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs

  • Provide students with career exploration opportunities

  • Connect curriculum to industry expectations

  • Prepare students with both technical and professional skills

High schools also partner with employers to offer:

  • Internships

  • Job shadowing experiences

  • Workplace tours

  • Mock interviews

  • Career competitions

  • Mentorship opportunities

Through advisory committees, educators and business leaders work together to ensure curriculum and training programs reflect current industry trends and workforce demands.

 

Listed below are sample programs from partnering school districts:

  • The Hanover Public School District is committed to preparing students for success in college, careers, and the workforce through a wide range of academic and Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways. Hanover High School offers 20 Advanced Placement courses and 15 certification and credentialing programs, providing students opportunities to earn local and nationally recognized industry credentials while participating in work-based learning, internships, and cooperative education. Programs include state-approved Welding, Diversified Occupations, and Education programs, as well as Mechatronics, Music Technology, Wood Technology, FAA Drone Certification, and a state-of-the-art STEAM Academy. Through partnerships with local employers, postsecondary institutions, and community organizations, students gain hands-on experience, in-demand technical and employability skills, and meaningful connections to their future education and careers.

  • Spring Grove offers a wide variety of both AP courses and credentialing programs. They offer AP courses such as Computer Science, Statistics, and German Language and Culture. Some of Spring Grove’s credentialing programs include a Pre-Apprenticeship Class/Commercial & Industrial Trade, Child Developmet, and Unmanned Aircraft System Operations.

  • Conewago Valley School District offers 12 AP courses and 21 National/Regional Credentialing Programs. Some of their AP courses include Microeconomics, Government, and Physics C: Mechanical. As a part of their workforce development initiatives, Conewago Valley offers courses such as Diesel Mechanics, Business Software, and Welding Technology.

  • South Western offers 15 different AP courses, along with College in the High School courses in the science, social studies, business, and technology and engineering departments. They also offer career education courses and pre-apprenticeships.

  • Delone Catholic offers 11 different AP Courses, including AP Pre-Calculus and AP Environmental Science.  In addition, they offer College in the High School courses in Spanish, Calculus, Pre-Calculus and Statistics.  They have a comprehensive Business Program, which includes courses like Accounting, Sports Management, and Entrepreneurship, just to name a few. Starting in the Fall of 2026, they will also start a Welding Program, with more offerings to come in the future.
